So, the alternatives that I have found: Scrivener is just a better word processor for $50 with a good as hell free trial, but I'm not going to use that as comparison because they're entirely different tools. This is just multiplied from earlier, but everything is just worse on mobile. You can't make any folders for your work unless you want to use Google Drive, and Drive doesn't have the benefit of letting me just quickly "see" what I was writing about. Your Docs are just flown everywhere around, and can only be sorted so well as to the name and date you put on them. For some reason, Google Docs hasn't fully integrated their stuff with Google Drive, and I mean this in the home space sense. I have a crap computer, but other software do it much better with simpler interfaces so I can focus on the work I'm actually producing.īotchy file organization. Simple as I can put it, the web version just slows down to molasses whenever it has anything that's even over 3,000 words from me. I also don't use most of the formatting tools, I have Scrivener for that. Doesn't matter if I can change the page itself to a different color, the white bars and background suck butt, and even with others developing extensions to help, dark mode and other customization options should just be a thing that they have. There are plenty of other apps, even Word, that just get it better in regards to customizing the interface to your hearts content. I've been on a journey to find a simple, cloud/web text editor that fulfills my need to write, and I feel Google Docs just doesn't fit the bill because :Ĭlunky/complex interface. Anyone found a good alternative to Google Docs?
